Fish monitoring in accordance with the Water Framework Directive in Baden-Wuerttemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate

In Baden-Wuerttemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate, regular monitoring is carried out to control and assess fish populations in accordance with the EC Water Framework Directive and the Habitats Directive. Since 2006, GefaÖ has been conducting fish population surveys by means of electrofishing in various catchment areas in Baden-Wuertemberg such as the northern Upper Rhine, the Main River and the lower Neckar as well as in Rhineland-Palatinate such as the Nahe River, the Sieg River and the Wieslauter River Basin. These surveys build the basis to implement the EC Water Framework Directive and Habitats Directive. The fishing campaigns were carried out both wading and from a boat, as well as a combination of both.
