Supervision of a construction project to increase energy trade between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
The Rwanda Energy Group (REG) planned the construction and rehabilitation of new and existing substations in Bwishyura, Kibuye, Rubavu, Shango and Birembo to increase the cross-border energy and electricity trade between Rwanda and the DRC, thereby improving the socio-economic development in the region.
GefaÖ was contracted to monitor the construction phase of the project regarding compliance with quality requirements and contract specifications and to provide corresponding consultancy services. Monitoring was carried out in accordance with the requirements of an existing Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP). Consultancy services included the review and approval of the Contractor's Human Resources and Occupational Health and Safety Policies as well as the Contractor's Environmental and Social Management Plan (CESMP).
The activities of GefaÖ's environmental and social experts comprised regular visits to construction sites and workers' camps, preparation of audit reports and stakeholder consultations.
